My little chef!

This blog got lost, and wasn't published. It is from early November.

Sometimes raising a healthy eater at two years old can be quite a task, but Matt and I are determined! We were both unhealthy eaters growing up, and we plan to change that cycle. :)

I kept a food journal keeping up with Owen's behaviors, and what foods triggered frustrations. It seemed to be processed food and grains. Matt and I weaned Owen off of processed foods first. We made lots of whole grains that weren't processed during this step. Once Owen was completely off of processed foods, we slowly took out grain.  I am proud to say Owen is eating a healthy Paleo diet for the most part these days! I am so happy Matt referred me to a site with "bread" type items you can bake that are Paleo.

If you are interested check it out...

Here is an interesting study that was just published as well...
Think Processed Foods Don't Affect Your Child's Behavior, Think Again!

I am so happy we made this decision. Owen has spent a lot less time in his "thinking square". I don't think it is fair to punish him, because what adults feed him cause him to react a certain away. It is a lot easier to change a diet. He has also started sleeping through the night without waking from bad dreams and night terrors, and napping for 2-3 hours a day without complaining.

I've been hiding a few pureed veggies in Owen's food, but most importantly I am trying to make eating healthy FUN!

Owen and I get up every morning and cook together.

These are from our "Step 1" phase, where we were still eating grain...

One morning we made whole wheat pumpkin/carrot muffins and cheesy eggs for breakfast.

We've also made whole wheat pumpkin spice pancakes. We added dark chocolate chips for fun!

We made whole wheat buttermilk cheese biscuits. Owen added ham and MORE cheese to his biscuit. :)

He also had banana/pumpkin yogurt with his biscuit. He was a silly boy this particular morning.

Step 2: No more Grain!!!

Helping Mommy cut up his bananas, spread Almond Butter on them, and add raisins. Owen is quite the chef!

Enjoying a Paleo Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffin. He loved it, but was sick in this picture.  These things tasted like a brownie!

Owen LOVES green smoothies. This particular smoothie had spinach, bananas, pineapple, peaches, blueberries, greek yogurt, sunbutter, and milled flax seed in it.

Here's to more healthy eating in 2014!
