Gymnastics Fun!

Kidsnasium is a new gymnastics center here in Pensacola. It is such a great place for kids!

I recently enrolled Owen in one of their classes. He goes every Thursday morning, and loves it.

Owen is in the clown fish class. It is a class geared towards ages 14-36 months. The children work on building their gross motor skills. They have optional group activities such as songs, obstacle courses, etc. It isn't too structured, and your child is given the option on whether or not to participate. This age group has short attention spans, and it is geared towards their level.

Make sure you stretch!

Sometimes after stretching we sing fun songs together. We do the hokey pokey, ring around the rosies, and several other songs. Owen's favorite is the bean bag song.

Owen has always LOVED bean bag songs. Here is a flash from the past of him at 14 months doing "The Bean Bag Rock" at the Homewood Library.

Kidsnasium has a really fun roller coaster that Owen can do "ALLLLLL by himself".

This boy loves to climb!

He also loves all things related to sports!

"I want to do the big basketball goal, Mommy!"

Owen kicking a goal at the soccer obstacle/station...

They have a cool trampoline where you can bounce into a foam pit. I want an adult size one of these. ;)

If you don't feel like "bouncing" into the foam pit, you can take a trip on the big slide and CRASH into it. Icing on the cake...

A video of Owen sliding into the foam pit on his first day...

A bouncy ball pit!

Owen freely participating in the "Toss the bean bag into the hula hoop" obstacle...

After you toss the bean bag into the Hula Hoop, you tip toe on the railroad track beam (Owen helped Coach Mel put it together)....

Owen LOVES balance beams. Since we have started gymnastics, we have to walk on every cement "beam" in parking lots. Owen loves Wal-Mart and our apartment's parking lots the best. :)

There is also a really fun zip line. It is an infant swing connected to a rope. You can strap the children in and let them "fly" (as Owen calls it). I haven't been able to get a picture of that because I am usually helping him with it. :)

We also do the parachute every week. Owen's favorite part is sitting in the middle with his friends while the Mommies pull the parachute back and forth in the room for a ride.

We've been working on forward rolls, or should I say trying to get Owen to step foot on the wedge mat. There is something about this age and somersaults. Only a few kids in the class will actually try it. I think they are a little scared of being upside down. Owen has tried it once. He is becoming A LOT more comfortable with "Coach Mel" so I think he will try it again fairly soon. :)

I can't say enough good things about Kidsnasium. Owen loves it, and I love that structure is offered, but not forced upon the children. (very developmentally appropriate) Owen loves to "copy" Coach Mel. When we get home from gymnastics, he always sets up obstacle courses for Mommy and Daddy to do. I love when he gives instructions....

"FIRST you run to the basketball goal, THEN you shoot the pretend ball, NEXT you runnnnn to the golf course...do you understand Mommy Daddy?"

I am sure there will be MANY more gymnastics posts in our future! I've got lots of updating to do, so stay tuned!
